What We Believe

We Affirm the following.

  • The Trinitarian name of God - Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.
  • God has revealed Himself fully and decisively as attested in Holy Scripture. We believe the Bible, consisting of the Old and New Testaments, to be the inspired and authoritative Word of God. The Scriptures are the guide for faith and life.
  • There is only one way to Salvation - through Jesus Christ.

What We Value

First Protestant Church values the Lordship of Jesus Christ as the absolute and direct leader of the church and its people…His living body on earth.  Further,

  • The Bible is the divine authority for Christian belief and behavior and reveals God’s infallible truth.
  • We are a church committed to making disciples who are wholehearted followers of Christ.  We value a ministry that develops strategies to uphold and exemplify Christian discipleship.
  • We value community and fellowship among believers who share and care for the spiritual and material needs of others through a lifestyle of Christ-like attitudes and actions.
  • We value the people who have yet to experience the joy of a personal relationship with God through our Lord Jesus Christ.

Our Affiliated Association

The Evangelical Association of Reformed & Congregational Christian Churches (evangelicalassociation.org)

When it was widely known that many United Church of Christ denominations were unhappy with their leadership a considerable number of congregations in the United States joined other denominations and churches resigned their membership.

Rev. Daryl C. Higgins thought it advisable for churches and ministers to have an alternate means of contact and to share and continue bible-based and historic roots.

Rev. Higgins, Rev. Ardie J. Kendig, and Rev. Richard A. Carse met with 7 other ministers from across the country on August 26, 1996 at First Protestant Church in New Braunfels, Texas. Articles of Incorporation were drawn up on May 28, 1997.

  • June 1-2, 1998 - 18 member Board of Directors met at First Protestant Church, New Braunfels, TX.
  • September 27-29, 1998 - First Annual Convocation at First Protestant Church, New Braunfels, TX.
  • September 27-28, 1999 - Second Annual Convocation at Evangelical Church in Creve Coere, MO.
  • Rev. Daryl C. Higgins - Founding President of the Association.
  • Rev. Ardie J. Kendig - First Secretary of the Association.
  • Rev. Richard A. Carse - First Minister of the Association.
  • The founding church and corporate office of the Association remains First Protestant Church.
  • The Association is not a denomination and each church governs itself according to the Bible.
  • The Board of Directors consists of 18 members (clergy & lay) from across the United States.

The purpose of the Evangelical Association is to

  • deepen and expand the fellowship of our clergy & churches
  • facilitate cooperation and counsel among our Association with regard to supporting clergy and churches
  • support and promote the Scriptural principles of the autonomy of the local church and encourage a steadfast Biblical witness by our churches - clery and laity - in our Lord, Jesus Christ.
